The Steam-Powered Rocket Ride To The Moon

Or... Ground Control to Ging and Rod

Written & Directed by Jamie Sweet

Set in 1933 against the backdrop of historical social change, Does This Steamship Go Anywhere? Or, Ground Control to Ging and Rod is the second part in the ongoing dire saga of the heroes, Rod McGirdlebutt and Ging Pao. Strangely contrasting our modern societal tendencies, the melodrama brings out the traditional values of cheering, yelling, helping people who need help and remembering to learn as we journey through life. Does This Steamship Go Anywhere?… is presented as The Garage Theatre’s 4th Annual Holiday Melodrama and Ice Cream Social. Free ice cream is provided.

Since its inception, The Garage Theatre has committed itself to providing at least one show a year that is accessible to all ages.  “This time of year is for family,” says writer and director Jamie Sweet.  “Families come together and find moments to be with each other. This is a totally inclusive show; it is designed to be enjoyed by everyone.”  Sweet finds creating the melodrama each year a way to combine accessible, historical and tradition theatrical values into one project. “Entertainment today is geared towards immediate success and less about the lessons that can be learned.”
